COVID-19 And Your Legal Case - DV Pledge Criminal Lawyer Toronto

Criminal Cases and COVID-19

What has happened to your Criminal Charge during Covid19?

The pandemic shut down not only the economy on March 15, 2020, but also the criminal courts. All trials and preliminary inquiries were cancelled during the period of March 15, 2020 to July 6, 2020. On July 6, 2020, the criminal courts reopened for some trials and preliminary inquiries, but they are still, as of today September 3, 2020, not operating anywhere near full
capacity.

What does this mean for your criminal matter?

Effectively, the backlog of criminal cases caused by the shutdown is so extensive it may take years to clear up. If you are not in custody, if your matter is not dated, if your matter is not serious (as defined by the powers that be), if your matter is not deemed to be a priority, you
could potentially be waiting several months, to a year or more before it is resolved.

What can your lawyer do for you?

What I have been doing for all my clients has been to take a proactive approach. I have been assessing each of my client’s cases, and making arrangements to meet via teleconference with the assigned crown, and subsequently with the assigned Crown and Judge.

As a result of my efforts, and my ability to disseminate the weaknesses of the crown’s  case against by clients, I have and continue to obtain not only incredible results, but completion of matters in a speedy, timely and in some cases even before the first court appearance. I have
successfully had charges completely withdrawn including domestic assault charges, drug  charges, fraud charges, and theft charges. I have been successfully obtaining HT A charges and having the underlying Impaired, 80 or Over and Refuse Breath charges withdrawn.

I have been obtaining Peace Bonds and having the underlying charges, some very  serious, for example Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, Sexual Assault  charges withdrawn. Furthermore, I have been successfully negotiating 4 year sentences to no jail on serious gun charges. My clients have been very happy with the results I have been obtaining during these very difficult times.

If you are concerned about your criminal charge or charges you need a very experienced, successful lawyer, such as myself, Donna Pledge, to take care of you and your criminal charges.
